Rep. Barkis named Legislator of the Year
Representative Andrew Barkis (R-2) was named AGCW’s Legislator of the Year for 2023 by AGC’s Government Affairs Committee. Rep. Barkis was the only House member who scored a perfect 100% on AGC’s 2023 Legislative Vote Record.
“As the Ranking Republican on the House Transportation Committee and member of the Housing Committee, Rep. Barkis has been a supporter of the construction industry since joining the Legislature in 2016,” said AGC’s Chief Lobbyist Jerry VanderWood. VanderWood pointed out that Rep. Barkis was named Legislator of the Year shortly after the 2023 session, but the award wasn’t presented until last week.
Among the issues that Rep. Barkis took pro-construction votes on involved ergonomics, transportation funding, natural gas availability, cannabis in employment, and work zone safety.
“As a business owner, Rep. Barkis is an important voice in the Legislature,” added VanderWood. The owner of Hometown Property Management, a local residential property management firm with offices in Olympia and Yelm, Rep. Barkis has been in the property-management field for over 27 years. As such, he is knowledgeable with regard to construction industry, and he has become a leader on housing affordability issues in the Legislature.
