Employers can apply to offset some UI benefit changes

The Washington State Legislature set aside $25 million to assist employers facing higher unemployment insurance (UI) rates.

The newly-created Unemployment Account — which holds $25 million — can help employers minimize future unemployment insurance rate increases.  Employers who apply can use money from the Account to offset of some of the UI benefit charges rather than having all of the charges hit the employer’s experience rating.  The application deadline is Sept.30.
