Through Sicklesteels extensive involvement in crane safety education company personnel have spoken to more than 4000 people over the past year to help them understand changes in the crane regulations. Sicklesteel provides practical solutions to questions that come from others within the construction industry.
Sicklesteel Cranes and its President Thom Sicklesteel are in the forefront with regard to the development of legislation regulation and standards on a national and state level in order to improve crane safety.
After the federal Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act was passed to give small businesses more of a voice in the development of regulations Sicklesteel participated on the committee to review the draft rule for cranes and derricks and was one of only a handful of members who spoke in favor of nationally accredited operator certification.
Sicklesteel took a leadership role in forging the Washington State legislation that required nationally-accredited operator certification certified cranes and nationally-accredited crane certifiers. Sicklesteel participated in every stakeholder meeting and was also a member of the select Stakeholder group which crafted solutions to contentious subject areas in the Washington State crane rule.
Within the AGC of Washington Sicklesteel took a leadership role to develop a crane safety subcommittee as a mechanism for crane issues and regulations to be addressed.

This has led to an exceptional safety record – in 2010 Sicklesteel once again finished the year with zero time-loss or recordable injuries.
