| What is BUILD PAC? |
| BUILD stands for Builders United In Legislative Development. It is the
commercial construction industry’s political action committee (PAC),
pooling voluntary contributions and managing them to 1) help fund the
campaigns of pro-construction candidates for local, legislative and
statewide offices and 2) support ballot measures favorable to the
industry and oppose those that are not. Your contributions make BUILD
PAC stronger! |
| Why does construction need a PAC? |
|
BUILD PAC provides contractors with an opportunity to influence state
and local elections from a position of collective strength. Our
lobbyists are highly regarded for their advocacy efforts on behalf of
the commercial construction industry. They successfully educate
policymakers on the effect of proposals on contractors, and
strategically influence the development of legislation and regulations.
But that’s only half the battle. The other half is electing
policymakers who will give the construction industry a fair shake in the
first place, and passing ballot measures that support a sound business
environment. And that’s where BUILD PAC comes in.
A well-funded PAC allows us to support and retain incumbents and elect
new candidates to office who will champion critical,
construction-related needs. Our opponents on important construction
issues are powerful. They spend big money to elect candidates that
don’t share our concerns and also fight our efforts to protect the
construction industry.
|
| Why does BUILD PAC need me? |
| Because everyone must share the load. Many hands make light work. Pick
your own proverb, the fact remains: if we share the commitment, the
burden is lighter on all of us. If each AGC Member business gave just
$250, BUILD PAC would be the 14th largest business PAC in the state. A
$500 contribution from each firm would vault BUILD to # 3; enabling us
to support more candidates and causes that support our industry. Our
issues don’t just affect one contractor, they affect us all. The return
on such a relatively modest investment – even in these tough times –
can return big benefits as we seek to restore a healthy economy and
bring common sense to principles our state government. |
|
Whom does BUILD PAC support?
|
|
BUILD supports candidates that support our industry and appreciate the importance of issues like infrastructure funding, workable environmental regulations, unemployment and workers’ compensation reform, fair and reasonable public contracting practices and workforce regulations and more. Public officials who understand the importance of the construction industry to the state's economy rarely just happen along. We must do all we can to support them!
